Applications are invited from the eligible candidates to fill vacant posts of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDSs) [i.e. Branch Postmaster (BPM)/Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)/Dak Sevaks] in different offices of the Department of Posts. The details of the tentative vacant posts in each Circle/Division are given in Annexure-I. India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: Notification Out for Schedule-II July Session

The Department of Posts, Government of India, has officially released the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Notification for Schedule-II (July-2026). Applications are invited from eligible candidates looking to secure central government engagement across various post offices in the country as Branch Postmasters (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmasters (ABPM), or Dak Sevaks.

Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications online exclusively through the official India Post portal at indiapost.gov.in.

Post Details, Job Profiles, and Salary (TRCA)

The engagement covers three major profiles under the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) structure. An annual hike of 3% is applicable along with Dearness Allowance (DA) and social security benefits like GDS Gratuity.

1. Branch Postmaster (BPM)

  • TRCA Slab: Rs. 12,000/- to Rs. 29,380/-

  • Job Profile: Entails managing day-to-day postal operations for the Branch Post Office (BO) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), product marketing, and handling customer service centers.

  • Requirement: Selected candidates must arrange accommodation for the post office at their own cost and reside in the post village.

2. Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)

  • TRCA Slab: Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 24,470/-

  • Job Profile: Functions include the sale of stamps/stationery, mail delivery at doorsteps, IPPB transactions, and assisting the BPM in administrative duties.

  • Requirement: Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concern BO.

3. Dak Sevak

  • TRCA Slab: Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 24,470/-

  • Job Profile: Engaged in departmental post offices, sorting offices, or delivery centers to look after mail handling, bagging, parcel transshipment, and logistics.

  • Requirement: Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the attached post office (HO/SO).

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 18 years

  • Maximum Age: 40 years

  • Age will be determined as of the final application submission date. Relaxations apply to reserved categories (5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and up to 15 years for PwBD combinations).

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must possess a Secondary School Examination (10th Standard) pass certificate from a recognized board with passing marks specifically in Mathematics and English.

  • The candidate must have studied the local language of the respective postal circle at least up to the 10th standard. Special local language and dialect certification clauses apply to Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Sikkim, and Nagaland.

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of computers.

  • Knowledge of cycling or driving a two-wheeler.

  • Adequate alternative means of livelihood to support themselves and their families.

Selection Criteria

There will be no written exam or interview for these positions. Shortlisting will be managed through a system-generated merit list calculated based on marks obtained in the 10th standard examination aggregated to an accuracy of four decimal places.

For applicants with grade sheets, standard multiplying factors of 9.5 per grade point will be applied by the system to compute the equivalent percentage. In case of ties, priority orders favor older candidates, followed by transgender and female applicants across respective reservation demographics.

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 100/-

  • Exempted Categories: All female applicants, SC/ST candidates, PwBD, and Transwomen are exempted from paying any application fee.

Steps to Apply Online for India Post GDS 2026

  1. Go to the official engagement portal at indiapost.gov.in.

  2. Click on the registration tab to complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) by verifying your mobile number and email ID via OTP.

  3. Log in using your generated Registration Number and password.

  4. Fill out the application form details, including board specifications, passing year, and marks obtained.

  5. Select your preferred Postal Division and exercise your post choices in order of preference.

  6. Upload your recent photograph (JPG/JPEG format, size 30 KB to 100 KB) and your scanned signature (JPG/JPEG format, size 20 KB to 100 KB) matching the exact dimensions prescribed.

  7. Complete the fee payment process if applicable, preview your data, and click final submit. Ensure you download a printout of the application form for your future reference.

Candidates are heavily advised to link their certificates to their DigiLocker accounts beforehand, as the department utilizes automated online API checks to cross-verify mark sheets during subsequent verification phases.
